May 2-6*, 2012
San Francisco
*Optional Post-Retreat trip to Napa Valley and The Pathway Home May 6-7. Full information is provided below, on this page.
A detailed agenda will be available to download here in the coming weeks. View the video invitation here. See Who's Coming here.
The L3 Spring Retreat, which brings together our entire membership, moves back to the West Coast this year, with an emphasis on innovation and challenge on multiple levels.
The Bay Area has long been recognized as the birth place of many new ideas and as a place for thinking outside the box. As L3 travels to San Francisco, we hope the spirit of innovation is in the air. This retreat will challenge and encourage you to contemplate who you are, who you want to be and how to get there.
On Thursday, we will study innovations in health and wellness. Guided by expert speakers, we will probe the frontiers of brain longevity, stroke prevention and neuro-science. Group discussions and question and answer sessions will challenge you to think about your health and future differently.
Friday the focus shifts to innovation in problem solving that will challenge us to change the way we interact - strengthening not only our thought processes, but the way we communicate with family and friends. Avant-garde thinkers from Stanford’s famed D-School will walk us through their processes, methods and discoveries as we learn how to apply their approach to our core values of health and wellness, family and relationships, and generosity and giving.
While the D-School will be available for further, deeper discussion, L3 members will also have the opportunity to tour some of Stanford’s newest highlights, including special exhibits at the Cantor Art Museum, or an in-depth conversation with the leaders of Stanford's Center for International Security and Cooperation.
Friday evening, the group will be split into smaller groups for a dine around dinner. Wonderful and varied restaurants will be selected.
Saturday is a day for fun and play, connecting with your fellow members, and enjoying some of the best activities and sites San Francisco has to offer. More information on the options you can select from is coming soon.
We will close the retreat with a closing dinner, including the ever popular and always moving panel, "Should I live to be 100..."
An optional post-retreat trip to The Pathway Home in Napa will show us the innovative treatment and support provided to soldiers with post traumatic stress or traumatic brain injury. (full details below)
With visits to the famous sites and lesser-known gems of San Francisco, and of course time to dance the night away, the 2012 Retreat will be a new twist on an old favorite - a get-together to remember.
Optional Post-Trip to Napa, Pathway Home
May 6 & 7
Last June, 17 L3 members spent three days in Napa Valley and Sonoma. While there they of course enjoyed the wine, but the main purpose was to visit with the Pathway Home, and learn directly from the soldiers who are adjusting to 'civilian' life after war.
The trip was so moving, we knew we had to allow other members an opportunity to meet with these brave young men and women.
You will leave from the Four Seasons in San Francisco around 11:00am Sunday, May 6 and head to Napa Valley via a chartered bus. This is about a two-hour bus ride. We will enjoy a casual lunch and then check in to your hotel in Napa Valley. After a couple hours to rest and refresh, we will enjoy dinner and wine tasting at a nearby winery.
Monday morning, we will begin with breakfast at the Pathway Home, meeting the soldiers in an inviting and friendly atmosphere. We will spend some time without the soldiers, hearing about how the program helps these returning warriors. We will then hear from a few soldiers who are ready to graduate from the progam; hearing briefly about their time at war and how the Pathway Home has helped them.
We will have lunch with the soldiers and then depart, via chartered bus around 1:30pm to return to SFO airport by about 3:30pm. You should plan your flight accordingly, allowing you with enough time to check-in and go through security.
